  • 2 pounds Yukon gold potatoes
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a baking dish with butter.
  2. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine heavy cream, milk, minced garlic, salt, pepper, and nutmeg; heat until warm but do not boil.
  3. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the baking dish; pour half of the cream mixture over the potatoes.
  4. Sprinkle half of both cheeses on top; repeat layers with remaining ingredients.
  5. Dot top with butter, cover with foil, and bake for 40 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 20 minutes until golden brown.
  6. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
